This is the illustration for a short story I wrote titled “Old Man’s Creek”. It is very special, it is inspired by an actual place from my father’s childhood town, about a creek where all the kids were afraid to walk by, especially at night.
This is the first sketch for the scene. What I liked about it was that it closely resembled the way the scene played in my head. This was also not so small like thumbnail, it was a mix between the exploration sketch and the middle sketch. However, the cliff and the actual creek had not really “landed” yet, but I knew I could fix it in the next iteration.
THUMBNAIL SKETCH

Now, as I was saying before, I did not need a second sketch, I felt the initial sketch had already done most of the work, so I scaled it up to the final size, and here’s the final pencil sketch.
