Here’s my final illustration for my original short story, “The Bravery of Joe Ice.” This illustration had more explorations and work sketches than I expected, but sometimes, it is important to iterate to find the right tone for the scene.

Here’s a remake of my Ghost Queen character I created back in 2022. I have added a cape and more jewels, which are actually talismans that prevent her from leaving the physical world completely, not until her task is done.

According to my home country’s tradition, the priest is believed to have been cursed due to horrible sins he committed during his life, which involved abusing his position as a respected man of faith. In some versions, the priest was lynched by the townsfolk, who decapitated him after his sins came to light. Since then, he should have wandered to prevent those same sins from happening until his debt to God and the people was paid.

Here’s the final entry (for me) to this past Inktober. This is an illustration that I came up with since the first time I read the prompt word “Scarecrow.” It took me a bit to resume the drawing by the end of October, but here it is.

I really like this one, particularly because I was going to do a Rhino playing a trompet, but immediatelly I knew I couldn’t draw this animal while ignoring it is an endangered species; I felt my illustration needed to say somthing about it.

This is a very special illustration, which depicts one of the most famous legends of my home country, El Salvador. The Cipe or “Cipitio,” is said to be the mischievous spirit of a cursed boy, who wanders the countryside causing all kinds of trouble. Stories are told of him doing naughty things like stealing fruit (specially bananas), eating the ashes of the woodfired stoves, or throwing pebbles at beautiful young women. And no, I haven’t drawn his feet wrong.

Dear Journal, you won’t believe what happened under the old bakery today. This girl is Sally, an original character I made up to star in an original short story I wrote for my daughter. This scene would be perfect for book 2.

Here’s a homage to one of the most enjoyable books from Stephen King’s Dark Tower Series, “The Wastelands” (book 3). If you’ve read the book, you’ll get the references:

This scene was originally conceived for the prompt word “BEAST” of last year’s Inktober, where three original characters were going on a quest to hunt a supernatural beast. Back in that year, I was writing a short story for each prompt-word, and this was probably the most ambitious of them in such a way that I couldn’t finish neither the story nor the illustration. But now it’s here.

This was an idea I had after discarding the possibility to do a remake of 2020’s inktober.
